Embodied Healing: Qi Gong & TRE for Nervous System Reset

Join Luke Mullen (TRE mentor & kinesiologist) and Barry McGinlay (world Tai Chi champion & senior Qi Gong instructor) for a 4-hour immersion into embodied awareness, nervous system release and inner regulation.

We begin with Qi Gong, an ancient practice that unites breath, movement and intention. Through slow circular motions, grounding stances and deep listening into the body’s energy pathways, Qi Gong opens the joints, softens tension and awakens sensation. The practice calms the mind, nourishes the organs, harmonises the flow of Qi, and invites the body to return to its natural rhythms. Participants often experience increased vitality, emotional ease and a subtle but profound sense of internal spaciousness.

From this foundation, we transition into TRE (Trauma/Tension Release Exercises) — a modern somatic method that activates the body’s natural tremor response to gently release chronic stress, anxiety and muscular holding. TRE helps reset the autonomic nervous system, encourages vagal tone, and restores a sense of safety, presence and internal coherence.

Together, Qi Gong and TRE create a powerful arc:
Qi Gong awakens — softening, opening, enlivening.
TRE releases — discharging what the body has been carrying, often quietly, for years.

This synergy supports deeper self-regulation, the ability to stay connected and present even as intense sensations or emotions arise. It nurtures the state of being embodied — anchored in the here and now, inhabiting the body with curiosity rather than contraction.

About the Practices

Qi Gong
A meditative movement art rooted in Chinese medicine and Taoist philosophy. It works with breath, posture, energy and awareness to restore balance to the nervous system, enhance resilience, cultivate inner stillness, and deepen connection between body, mind and spirit.

TRE
A somatic release method that helps clear the imprint of stress and trauma from the body through natural tremoring. TRE supports parasympathetic recovery, vagus nerve health, and emotional integration, often leading to reduced anxiety, improved sleep, and a more regulated baseline.
